How to interpret long-short ratios
A long-short ratio compares selected long and short accounts or positions. The definition, population, and weighting vary by provider, so ratios from different dashboards may not be comparable.

Check the denominator
An account ratio counts accounts, while a position ratio may weight exposure. A small number of large traders can therefore produce a different signal from a large number of small accounts.
Some providers report only top traders or one venue, which is not the entire market.
Crowding is not timing
An extreme ratio may reveal one-sided positioning, but it does not show when the imbalance will unwind.
Pair it with funding, open interest, price trend, and liquidation levels before drawing a conclusion.
Frequently asked questions
Does a ratio above one guarantee a decline?⌄
No. It indicates more measured long exposure under that definition, not a reversal time.
Why do sites disagree?⌄
They may count different venues, users, positions, and time windows.
